SSNIT to hold retirement planning seminar in Wa on saturday

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) on Saturday, October 20 will hold a seminar on retirement planning for the students of the University of Development Studies (UDS), Wa campus.

The Seminar is to educate the students on their rights to social security and the benefits of joining the scheme early.

The seminar which is dubbed "Saturday’s SSNIT Info Shop" will conclude phase one of week-long programme, an event which is being organized under the theme:“SSNIT, Your Security for Tomorrow”.

A delegation led by the SSNIT Wa Branch Manager, Mr. Hansen Adzor, called on the principal of the School, Professor Amin Alhassan on Tuesday,October 17 to invite him as the special guest for the event.

Receiving the delegation,the principal expressed his gratitude to the team for selecting the Wa campus as part of the phase 1 of the SSNIT Info Shop.

The SSNIT Info Shop a joint programme being organized by the University Student Association of Ghana (USAG) and SSNIT is targeted at educating university students on their rights to social security and preparing them to take interest in retirement planning even before they start working.

The event will provide the opportunity for students to register into the scheme and for workers on the campuses to perform various transactions with the Trust including printing of statements.

Prof. Alhassan commended the Trust for its investment in promoting education in the country especially in the area of students’ accommodation in tertiary institutions.

According to him, “UDS Wa campus has a vast land which the university is ready to make available to the Trust to put up hostels to accommodate the increasing student population, we are aware of how SSNIT hotels in our Nyankpala campus is the preferred choice for students”. he said.

Already, about 5,000 students and lecturers have participated at similar events organised at the University of Science and Technology, University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast and the Methodist University College of Ghana.

Saturday’s event is expected to attract about 1,000 participants and it will be addressed by Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, the Director General of SSNIT and other management personnel of the Trust.
