SSNIT takes Aggudey court

...over 1,092,000.60 GH cedis SSNIT contributions
Accra, Nov. 5, GNA - The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has taken George Aggudey, Chief Executive Officer of Gocrest Security Limited, to court demanding a total of 1,092,000.60 GH cedis (10,920,006,000.00 cedis) for unpaid SSNIT contributions and penalty.

Aggudey is facing two counts of failing to pay Social Security contributions of 454,351.51 GH cedis (4,543,515,100 cedis) for his workers between July 2006 and June 2007, and three per cent cumulative penalty on the unpaid contributions totalling 637,649.09 GH cedis (6,376,490,900.00 cedis) for the same period.

Aggudey, who has been granted nine million GH cedis (nine billion cedis) self-recognizance bail, was not in court but was represented by his lawyer, Mr Fredrick Armatey.

The presiding judge, Mrs Jennifer Doodo, adjourned the case to December 10, 2007.

Mr Asamoah Damptey, prosecuting officer of SSNIT, who presented the facts of the case, said an inspection conducted by SSNIT into the wages book of the company on August 15 revealed that Aggudey had failed to pay contributions of 454,351.51 GH cedis (4,543,515,100 cedis) being social security contributions of his workers for the period July 2006 to June 2007.

He said a demand letter was issued on August 29 alerting Aggudey to his indebtedness to SSNIT, which expired on September 12, 2007, but efforts to get him to settle the amount in full have proved futile. Mr Damptey said Aggudey has so far paid 60,000.00 GH cedis (600 million cedis) leaving a balance of GH 1,032,000.06 GH cedis (10.32 billion cedis)
