Information assembled by The Herald points to attempts within the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to impeach the Vice- President, Albert Kwabena Dwomfour for a myriad of reasons, including his involvement in a series of fraudulent scandals that have rocked the body.
Members of the executive committee of the SRC were locked up in an emergency meeting over the weekend, over cases of forgery, misrepresentation, abuse of office and the ¢350,000,000 (GH¢350,000) fraud scandal that the Vice-President was detected to have been involved in.
The damning allegations, indicting Mr. Dwomfour, popularly known as “Asaase”, have been backed with documentary proofs which are increasingly worsening the case of the controversial SRC Vice-President, who is also contesting for the post of SRC President.
The legislative arm of the SRC, the General Assembly, is expected to take a decision on the impeachment of Mr. Dwomfour, in the course of the coming week.
Investigations conducted by The Herald indicate that Mr. Dwomfour deceived the authorities at Regent University, when he wrote a letter claiming to have received the blessings of the management of GIMPA and the school’s SRC. He further claimed in the “unsanctioned” letter, that GIMPA officials, including the Directors of Administration and Students Affairs have been notified.
These blatant lies have finally come to the attention of the authorities at Greenhill, who have consequently scheduled a meeting today to interrogate the embarrassing misconduct of the SRC Vice- President. The Rector of GIMPA is reported to have expressed fury over the misrepresentation which has brought the reputation of the prestigious school into disrepute.
The Regency University Vice-President in-charge of Finance and Development, Albert Amoono, who was misled into exchanging correspondence with Mr. Dwomfour, is reported to have been shocked at the development, when he was later made aware that he had dealt with an unauthorized individual. Although Mr. Amoono fellowships with the conspirators of the forged letter, he is said to be disappointed and enraged.
Prof. Kingsely Larbi, the President of Regent University is reported have been disheartened at the diplomatic blunder, when a fact-finding team from GIMPA held a meeting with him in his office, last Friday. Insiders within the GIMPA SRC reported that Prof. Larbi repeatedly described the GIMPA SRC Vice-President as “a clever thief who must be punished and dismissed by the authorities.”
Besides the series of scandals, the SRC Vice-President has become more unpopular on the GIMPA campus as a result of his incorrigible and rude abuse of the English language and blatant disregard for the rules of English grammar.
He is often quoted by students, especially among the SRC members, to create laughter, kill boredom and relieve stress. The GIMPA SRC Vice-President first attracted attention when a forged letterhead of the GIMPA SRC bearing his name and signature was intercepted by concerned students. The forged letters were soliciting for funds estimated at¢356m from the Ghanaian business community.
Mr. Dwomfour, however, flatly denied knowledge of the forged letters. Speaking under oath, a Level 300 student, Kojo Folson, who is a hip life artist with the name ‘Borax’ popped up to claim responsibility.
Borax told the Vetting Committee that was probing the issue that he skillfully forged the signatures and the letterheads. He accordingly pleaded with the Vetting Committee to let go the SRC Vice-President.
Days after this drama, Mr. Dwomfour’s campaign team released a song, which was strikingly composed by the same ‘Borax’ who voluntarily laid claim to the criminal act of forgery and fraud.
A week later, the campaign of the SRC Vice-President was officially launched in the school with Borax being the special guest and star performer. From then, the relationship between the two friends, which some students describe as an “unholy alliance” has grown and flourished with the school authorities and the SRC looking on with awe.
Shrugging the initial lackluster mood, the SRC Executives have found their rhythm and subsequently have begun moves to impeach the SRC Vice-President.
As at press time, Mr. Dwomfour was reported to have vowed to resist any attempt to pass a vote of no confidence in him or disqualify him from the race to the GIMPA SRC Presidency, a position he feels he is entitled to at all cost.
Stay tuned for more.
