President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has talked up efforts by his government in resuscitating the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

According to him, debts have been paid and the Scheme “has been brought back to life”.

Addressing Parliamentarians in his state-of-the-nation speech on Thursday, the president said even renewal of membership has seen a tremendous increase.

“As of 19th December, 2018, the introduction of mobile [technology] has seen over 70,000 members renew their membership.”

He, therefore, commended Dr Samuel Annor for his brief but impactful administration.

Dr Annor has since retired as Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

President Akufo-Addo also announced that plans are far advanced to have Ghanaians renew membership of the NHIS with their Ghana Cards.
