SONA 2019: Mahama snubs Presidents

Former President John Mahama definitely showed up at President Nana Akufo-Addo’s third State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 21, in Parliament.

But it is unclear his level of engagements with Mr. Akufo-Addo, former President Jerry John Rawlings and other top dignitaries including Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Michael Ocquaye, First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Second Lady, Samira Bawumia after the event.

In a group photograph that has since emerged from the ceremony, Mr. Mahama cannot be seen among the dignitaries particularly the presidents and their spouses

Those in the picture were Mr. Akufo-Addo, his wife, Rebecca, wife of vice president, Bawumia, Samira, Mr. Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu, the Speaker of Parliament and his wife, Alberta Ocquaye.

Neither Mr. Mahama nor his wife Lordina Mahama showed up for the group photos.

The relationship between Mr. Manama and the founder of the NDC, ex-President Rawlings has been ‘weak’ in recent years.

Mr. Rawlings and President Akufo-Addo have surprisingly however, enjoyed a much more fruitful relationship in spite of the fact that the two parties they belong to, the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress are two bitter rivals.
