SMIDO holds technological exhibition

Kumasi, July 28, GNA - A technological exhibition to showcase equipment and machinery manufactured by artisans at the Suame magazine was mounted at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on Monday. These included water pump and fufu pounding machines, articulated truck spare parts, foundry equipment, clay stoves and cooking utensils. It was organized under the auspices of the Suame Magazine Industrial Development Organization (SMIDO) and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

Ms. Hannah Tetteh, Minister of Trade and Industry, in a speech read on her behalf, at the opening of the show, announced that government would soon establish a technological innovation centre to provide consultancy services to people engaged in small and medium scale enterprises in the country. The project would include the provision of state-of-the-art equipment for metal processing to enhance metal engineering for rapid industrial development.

Ms. Tetteh said there was the need to support people in medium scale enterprises to enable them to continue to play a significant role in the nation's socio-economic development and to add value to their products.

She said this way, they would become competitive and help to grow the economy. Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said the KMA would give the Suame Magazine the necessary technical and monetary push to come out with innovations to help to address the industrial challenges of the nation.
