SIC To Cut Down Number Of Workers

The State Insurance Company of Ghana Limited will within the next three months undergo a restructuring exercise to make the company leaner, more efficient and effective, more client responsive and more profitable, as a limited liability company.

This was disclosed at a press conference in Accra, yesterday, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, Prof. I.M. Ofori.

He said SIC, which was set up some 40 years ago must be up and doing to contest with its competitors. Some clients are frustrated at the speed of service and the long waits before being attended to, which portrays poor customer service, he said and attributed the situation to too many decision making points, which slows down progress.

The company presently has over 640 workers in branches all over the country and it has the intention to downsize to increase sufficiency. The intention is to shed off staff in phases within the next three months, the first beginning with the top managers.

The restructuring exercise involves the scrapping of some positions and intra-company reposting or reassignment for others. Some current members of staff will have to be released from the company, while others will be re-posted to other departments to beef up the activities and operations in regional offices to make them independent. The Chairman however emphasized that the release of some members of staff has nothing to do with malfeasance. Rather, in the proposed structure of the organisation, their positions have become redundant.

The Managing Director of SIC, Mr. Peter Osei Duah, explained that, those who would be affected by the exercise will be contacted and made to meet the management who will see them off with a special take home package.
