The Ministry of Education (MoE) has initiated an investigation into a widely circulated social media post alleging that placement into Aburi Girls’ Senior High School (ABUGISS) costs GH¢15,000.

The post, according to the ministry, was shared by one Gertrude Adzo Borklo, who claimed that admission into the prestigious school could be bought.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, has reacted to the development, acknowledging the severity of such an allegation, adding that a probe has been initiated to ascertain the veracity of the allegation.

“This feeds into a conspiratorial narrative designed to create the false impression that the BECE Computerised School Placement System is for sale. The Ministry views this allegation with the utmost seriousness and has initiated an immediate investigation. We are committed to ensuring that the integrity of the school placement process remains intact.”

The minister, however, added that efforts to contact the author of the post have so far been unsuccessful, as her account was deactivated shortly after publication.

He consequently sent a strong warning to individuals, hiding behind anonymous or ghost accounts, to spread falsehoods.

The Ministry has also indicated that it is working closely with the National Security Secretariat, the Cyber Security Authority, and other relevant agencies to identify and track down persons responsible for such claims.

“We wish to state categorically that the BECE Computerised School Placement System is entirely free of charge. At no point is payment required to access this service.

“We urge the public to assist by reporting any individuals, whether ministry officials or third parties, who solicit money in exchange for placement. Anyone found culpable will face swift and decisive action,” Dr Apaak reiterated.
