Rtd. Referee G.K Manu wants referees demoted for committing mistakes in game instead of ban

Ex-referee wants current officials demoted not banned Ex-referee wants current officials demoted not banned

Kumasi-based retired referee G.K Manu says referees who make mistakes in games should be demoted instead of handing them lengthy ban.

The ongoing Ghana Premier League has been rocked with so many officiating controversies, whereby the referees in question were either ban or acquitted.

The retired official believes that handing a hefty ban on referees who are supposed to have committed a mistake in a game is unfair as their overall performance are not put into perspective when judging them but only on one mistake during the match.

“I find it inappropriate for referees to be banned for mistakes they make in games. We should realise that referees are also humans and hence are fallible. I think that a more appropriate punishment will be demoting such referees to lower tiers so that they can correct their mistakes,” Manu told Happy FM.
