Robbers kill watchman

Workers of the Internal Revenue Service IRS at the Tema Port area had the shock of their lives when they reported for work on Monday to find the watchman of the office lying dead in a pool of blood.

Bob Anaba, 45, is suspected to have been murdered by robbers, who broke into the offices but could not reach the 5.2 million cedis kept in a safe there over the weekend. Mr Yaw Opuku, Head of the IRS at the Tema Port told the GNA that he suspects that the thieves entered the IRS office by removing the louver blades. He disclosed that so far only a radio set has been confirmed missing but said an inventory of other items in the office would be taken. Mr Daniel T. Angmor, Tema Regional Crime Officer, who confirmed the incident said some workers of the IRS, who reported for work on Monday and found the main door locked sought the assistance of the police, who forced the door open only to find Mr Anaba dead.

He said the police suspects that the thieves climbed the design blocks to the top of the two storey building before descending to the ground floor where the IRS office is located. He said he suspects the crime might have been committed on Saturday night since the blood of the deceased was almost dry on the floor under the staircase where he normally sits.
