Robbers attack currency dealer

Two men, wielding a gun and machetes, around 1900 hours on Tuesday attacked a prominent currency dealer at Aflao, and wrenched from him a bag containing monies in different currencies.

In the process, the two masked men, inflicted a deep cut on the left arm of the victim with a machete, amidst firing of gunshots to scare bystanders.

Mr Paul Kwawu, the 54-year old currency dealer, is currently on admission at the Ketu-South District Hospital.

A source close to the police, corroborating eye witness reports, said Kwawu emerged from his wooden office near the Aflao Police Station at about 1900 hours to board a vehicle home.

He said the two believed to have been lurking around, then pounced on him.

The source said the criminals fired shots scaring numerous by standers, before fleeing with the money bag into the thickets in the lagoon, just before the police arrived.

The police had commenced investigations and were taking the issue seriously in view of similar attacks in the area in recent times.
