Roads Minister answers questions in Parliament

Accra, Feb 13, GNA- Dr. Richard Anane, Minister of Roads and Transport on Friday said the Ministry has programmed to complete the tarring of the Mepe-Dove road in the Volta Region.

This would enable patients from Sogakope and surrounding towns to easily access the Battor Mission Hospital.

Dr Anane said this when answering questions in Parliament on when the Mepe-Dove road would be tarred.

He explained that engineering studies and design of the road would be completed by the end of the last quarter of this year while procurement would be completed in the first quarter of 2005 for work to commence thereafter.

The Minister said the Mepe-Dove feeder road forms part of the Sege-Aveyime-Battor-Mepe-Dove Junction, which links Accra-Sogakope road. In an answer to another question on how soon the roads in the Asesewa township in the Eastern Region of Upper Manya Krobo constituency would be rehabilitated, Dr Anane said Asesewa being one of the major marketing centres in grains, particularly maize in the country, the Ministry undertook engineering studies and design of the town roads in the last quarter of 2003.

He therefore, assured the House that procurement would be completed in the middle of this year and thereafter work on the road would commence.

As to what plans the Ministry of Roads and Transport has to start routine maintenance of the Ntankro-Kumso road which is fast deteriorating in Brong Ahafo, the Minister said the road has been awarded on contract to Messrs Cindsara Limited in December last year for grading, ditch re-excavation and culvert cleaning

On the Kokuma-Dumanafo feeder road in the Kintampo constituency, Dr Anane explained that the road was on track but the Ministry has programmed it for engineering studies and design for this year, which would be completed in June.

He said the Babatokuma-Kaakaa feeder road also in the Kintampo constituency had been awarded to Messrs World Light Enterprise in August last year for improvement works and the contract was expected to be completed by February, 2005.

The Minister was answering a question from Mr. Yaw Effah-Baafi, NDC-Kintampo who had sought to know from him what plans were in place for the construction of the Babatokuma-Kaaka feeder road to enhance patronage of the Babatokuma market. 13 Feb 04
