Ritual Murder at Offinso

The NPP ward chairman for the Kayira Awisam area in the Offinso South Constituency of the Ashanti Region is currently in the grips of the Offinso police apparently for his complicity in a case of ritual murder.

Samuel Yeboah, the said ward chairman, is believed to have been responsible for the death of Yaa Iddrisu, a 12 year old school girl.

According to the report, the throat of the girl was slit and the organs inside her throat as well as her tongue were removed for ritual purposes intended to help the NPP win the Offinso by-elections scheduled for Tuesday, October 24, 2006. Investigations are on-going and more details would be made available as the story unfolds.

The Offinso police yesterday arrested a certain Samuel Yeboah, aged 50, for his alleged involvement in the murder of a 14-year-old girl, identified as Yaa, on a farmland at Kayira. The arrest of Yeboah, a palm-wine tapper, has created tension in the Offinso township, ahead of today’s by-election.

A source at the Offinso Divisional Police Command hinted that the victim’s father, who is one of Yeboah’s labourers, had gone with him to the farm last Sunday.

While there, the suspect allegedly sent Yaa to fetch him a cutlass at an unknown place on the farm. The source said the 14-year-old girl never returned. Her lifeless body was later found on the farm when a search party was organised to look for her.

According to the source, checks on the victim’s body revealed that a sharp object had been used to slash her neck while vital parts of her body had been removed. Daily Guide learnt that the body has been deposited at the Saint Patrick Hospital Morgue in Offinso, awaiting autopsy, while the suspect is in custody, assisting the police in their investigations.

Earlier reports monitored on Joy, an Accra-based private radio station suggested the suspect was an NPP official. However, NPP National Chairman, Peter Mac Manu told Daily Guide that the party had nothing to do with the murder case, describing the allegations as mischievous.

According to him, mischief-makers first peddled the name of the constituency chairman. However, when the constituency chairman surprisingly showed up at the police station, Mac said the same party opponents now revised their notes, stating that the suspect was a ward chairman.

Mr Manu said since the party was not operating the ward system anymore, the claims were unfounded.D. Guide
