The committee set up by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to investigate the alleged assault on a nurse at the Ridge Hospital has found no medical evidence to support claims of a shoulder dislocation.

Presenting its findings to the minister on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the committee stated that Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a rotation nurse at the hospital, reported her injuries a day after the incident, which occurred on August 18, 2025.

According to medical records reviewed by the committee, there were no signs of a fracture in her left wrist or a dislocation in her right shoulder joint. The committee noted, however, that the nurse was treated, given pain relief medication, advised to rest, and placed under psychological support care.

“Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, who is a rotation nurse, reported her injury to the hospital a day after the incident on August 18 and was further treated. There was no evidence of a fracture in her left wrist or a dislocation of her right shoulder joint, as documented by the medical records. She has, however, been treated and given pain relief, recommended for bed rest, and received psychological support care,” the committee reported.

The findings contradict earlier claims by the nurse that she suffered a dislocation during the assault.

The case gained public attention after a viral video showed relatives of a patient clashing with staff at the hospital’s emergency department.

The incident sparked widespread concern over the safety of health workers, prompting Minister Akandoh to direct the formation of the investigative committee.

Meanwhile, the nurse, Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, has filed a civil lawsuit against social media personality Ralph Saint Williams, popularly known as Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian.
