Ghanaians have been stricken with shock following the disclosures made during the televised sitting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament, Kumbungu MP Ras Mubarak, who is also a member of the committee, has said.

The PAC is currently interrogating the Auditor General’s report for 2015.

According to him, it is unacceptable the events that are happening in the public sector, hence the PAC will make recommendations to the House for appropriate actions to be taken.

His comments come in the wake of a hunt by the PAC and Ghana Police Service for an auctioneer who failed to account for the disposal of government vehicles totalling GHS30,000.

This was uncovered in the 2015 Auditor General’s report. The report uncovered that the said auctioneer, with Shelter Mart, after selling the vehicles belonging to the Ghana Health Service, only accounted for GHS9,500 cedis out of the realised GHS44,000.

Making an appearance before the PAC on Thursday 27 April, Director in charge of Health Administration and Support Services at the Ghana Health Service, Kofi Opoku, explained that the matter had been reported to the Ministries Police Station after several attempts to recover the money proved futile.

He also told the committee that the said auctioneer was recuperating at a health facility in the Volta Region.

Speaking on these happenings in an interview with Emefa Apawu, host of 505 on Class 91.3FM on Thursday April 27, Mr Mubarak said: “A lot of things that are coming up may be a bit startling to the listeners and viewers of the sittings, but clearly there seems to be a pattern. These things might have continued or gone on for a very long time in our public service.

“We can’t continue like that as a country, it is very important that those of us on the committee will do our work and make our recommendations to the entire membership of parliament to adopt those recommendations and then we will take it up from there.”
