Reverend James Annan of the Methodist Church, Aprade Society, has called on Ghanaians to prioritise moral and spiritual renewal as a fundamental basis for achieving national unity and truth.

His appeal was made during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, held on July 1, 2025, at Jackson University College in Kumasi.

This event was part of a nationwide observance declared by President John Dramani Mahama to foster unity, spiritual reflection, and collective action for national healing and progress.

It is important to note that President Mahama officially designated July 1, which coincides with Republic Day, as Ghana’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving to be celebrated annually.

Speaking at the commemorative service, Rev Annan urged all citizens to uphold the integrity of religious values and teachings to help propel the nation forward.

He emphasised the crucial need for love, unity, and inclusivity, drawing from scripture.

“Preaching from Jeremiah 29:7–12, I say: Speak life, not curses. Promote unity, not tribalism. Uphold truth, not rumors. Seek justice with love, not vengeance,” he stated.

Also present at the event, Theodosia Jackson, Principal of Jackson College of Education, commended President Mahama’s initiative, describing it as a "spiritual directive."

She noted that the nationwide call to prayer was not only timely but also an act of obedience to divine guidance, signaling a path toward national sovereignty and a brighter future for Ghana.

“Prayer plays a significant role in the success of everything. If the president has declared a nationwide prayer for the country, then it is a clear sign that Ghana has hope for a brighter future,” she added.
