Returnees from Libya registered at Dormaa Ahenkro

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), April 15,GNA - Dormaa Municipal Assembly has registered 451 youth, including a female, compelled to return home from Libya due to the political turmoil in the oil-rich North African country. The registration was in response to a government directive requesting all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to collect data on returnees as basis for their re-integration into the various sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

Mr. Emmanuel Amoah, Assistant Director at the Assembly, who supervised the registration exercise, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro that the Assembly expected more of the returnees to register before the end of the exercise later in April 2011. "The returnees would, depending on their skills and capabilities, be assisted by the Assembly to establish themselves and contribute meaningfully to the nation's development process", Mr. Amoah added. He said most of the returnees had indicated they worked in Libya as carpenters, masons and painters and would like to continue with similar ventures back home.

Mr. Amoah appealed to all returnees in the municipality to endeavour to register with the Assembly to enhance easy processing of information on them.

He also enjoined them to exercise patience while the Assembly took the necessary steps to address issues concerning their re-integration.
