Resuming the halted season looks impossible - Kotoko captain Felix Annan

Asante Kotoko captain, Felix Annan has cast a huge doubt over the chances of resuming the suspended 2019-20 Ghana Football season.

The Premier League and other local football competitions have been halted by the Ghana Football Association since March 2020, a decision that conforms to a directive from the government to ban all forms of public and social gatherings due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Ghana FA is working around the clock to engage various stakeholders about a potential return of football.

The country’s football governing body has set a deadline of June 30 to communicate the decision that they have taken on the halted season.

With the government likely to lift the ban on social gatherings fully on July 31, stakeholders of the game are beginning to doubt how realistic it will be for the season to continue.

Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan is one of such skeptics. The Black Stars goalkeeper has told Takoradi-based Skyy Power FM that it will be difficult for the season to resume.

“Frankly speaking, as at now and per what the president said that all contact sports activities are suspended until at least July 31st, it will be difficult for us to continue the season,” Annan said.

“Even if authorities are able to place measures so that the restriction will be lifted on July 31st, clubs will need like 1 month or 6 weeks to prepare.

“So we are entering into August-September, so when are we going to finish all these 16 remaining games so we start the next season.

“In my estimation, I think we are not in the right frame to start the league now,” he concluded.
