Resignation is currently not on the table for Torkornoo – Godfred Dame

Godfred Yeboah Dame, former Attorney General and lead counsel for the suspended Chief Justice, maintains that the procedures concerning Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo’s removal are flawed.

He argued that due process and constitutional principles have been disregarded.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after the Supreme Court, by a unanimous decision, dismissed the injunction application filed by his client, which sought to have the process halted.

The court had earlier struck out the supplementary affidavit, also by a unanimous decision.

Mr. Dame disagreed with those who have asked the Chief Justice to resign.
He declared that resignation is not on the table because “due process, rule of law, and constitutionalism must prevail in Ghana.”

“That is what we seek. It is not on account of people putting pressure on the CJ to resign or do whatever that we will take any decision. The most important thing is that there must be an upholding of the rule of law in Ghana, and we continue to assert our rights. The proper thing must be done. As far as I’m concerned, the correct thing must be done. She knows what due process is. She knows what constitutional rights are, and I think that’s what she’s asking for,” he added.
