Some concerned residents of the Eikwe fishing community in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region have commended Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah for renovating their public toilet facility, a move that aims to end open defecation in the area.
On Christmas Day, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, together with the Ellembelle District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Agyekum, officially handed over the renovated toilet facility, constructed by the MP, to the Chief and people of Eikwe.
Speaking to opinion leaders in the community, residents pledged to make good use of the facility and warned that those who engage in open defecation would face fines.
“We are happy today because, at long last, our toilet, which had fallen into disrepair, has been renovated by our generous MP. We promise to make good use of it, but we also want to warn those who practice open defecation in our community—whoever is caught will be fined,” they stated.
They also appealed to GNPC to complete the stalled Eikwe hospital expansion.
“Let us use this platform to appeal to GNPC to come and complete the hospital expansion because we don’t know why the project has been abandoned for more than four years. We need this project completed so it can save lives and provide employment for many nurses,” they urged.
Residents expressed gratitude to Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah and his NDC government for constructing roads that enhance safety.
They further vowed to prevent illegal mining in the area.
“Eikwe is a no-go area for galamsey activities. We will never allow anyone to destroy farmlands or water bodies. We will protect our environment and expect other communities to learn from us,” they stated.
Ellembelle DCE Joseph Agyekum emphasized that he would work closely with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to develop the district. He called on the people of Ellembelle to support the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in his endeavors.
He also disclosed that the assembly has secured land for a 24-hour economy market at Nzema Aiyinasi.
The Chief of Eikwe honored Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah with a citation and a ram.
In a related initiative, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah presented food items to orphans at the Esiama World Alive Orphanage. He was accompanied by his wife and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle. They also spent time playing and dining with the orphans.
