Residents evacuated as fire engulfs Michel Camp Base Ammunition Depot

Residents of communities bordering the Base Ammunition Depot, Michel Camp were on Wednesday dawn evacuated to safer grounds following a fire that engulfed the vicinity.

Journalist, Moses Dautey reports that there was a highly explosive fused out which caused heavy vibration towards Golf City, however, no casualties were recorded.

It's not clear yet what triggered the fire that engulfed the sensitive installation but reports say military officials have been able to contain the fire.

The Director at Directorate of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces, Col Aggrey Quarshie who confirmed the situation that posed a threat to the huge base said all means available were deployed to prevent the fire from spreading.

Col Quarshie mentioned that the fire was detected in the laboratory and small arms zone of the depot. As such, the effort was concentrated on halting the spread to the areas housing the Highly Explosive zone where long-range ordnances are located.
