The head of NADMO for Greater Accra Mr. Evans Anakwa, has directed residents around the Weija Dam to relocate with immediate effect. The directive follows planned spillage of the dam.

In an interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the NADMO officer said, due to the torrential rains in the past weeks, the dam is filled above its normal level. According to him, the current water volume of about 47 feet is spilling through four gates.

More water he noted will be spilled if the level keeps rising. He expressed worry about citizens who stay close and are always affected saying they will call on the NADMO officials once again to come to their aid after the dam is opened and they are tired because the citizens have been told to evacuate and relocate but they have refused.

He therefore called on the authorities to help enact the laws on the airline demarcation that will help evacuate citizens living around the dam.

“This will help them have the authority to demolish buildings around the dam area to prevent loss of lives and problems whenever the dam is opened annually” he said.

He advised citizens around the dam area to evacuate or relocate to prevent loss of lives, properties and stay safe.
