Relatives of President appointed as ministers are very qualified - NPP MP

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Boakye Antwi has rubbished assertions by Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has appointed many of his family members as ministers in his government.

According to Eugene Boakye Antwi, all the alleged relatives of the president cannot be said to be direct relatives as being suggested by the opposition.

Mr. Boakye who was speaking on Accra based Adom Television and monitored by MyNewsGh.com said apart from the Minister for Works and Housing, Atta Kyea who is a direct descendant of the president’s lineage, the rest are distant relations.

He opined that all the so-called close relations of the president are very qualified for their respective positions, explaining that all of them apart from the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta are Members of Parliament (MPs).

“The NDC has the penchant for labelling appointees of the NPP as relatives of the president. They did that in the era of President Kufuor. They labelled Richard Anane and some others as relatives of the then president Kufuor. But let’s remember that it was someone from the NDC, Alban Bagbin who came out and lambasted former president Mahama for running friends and family government. So they shouldn’t shift the blame. The NPP is not the government that is appointing relatives of the president” he said.
