Rehabilitation Of Accra - Cape Coast Road Next Year

Cape Coast The government will start the reconstruction of the Cape Coast-Accra road with credit assistance from the Japanese government early next year. The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kojo Yankah, announced this at a meeting with heads of departments in Cape Coast. Mr Yankah said the Regional Co-ordinating Council of which he is chairman, has initiated plans for the construction of an airstrip in Cape Coast to enhance tourism. He said a site has been acquired at Mpeasem in the Cape Coast district and exploratory works are being done for work to start before the end of the year. Mr Yankah said Komenda Sugar Estates has been identified as one of the export free zones in the region and asked the departmental heads to help identify more of such areas. The regional director of the Electricity Corporation of Ghana, Mr Daniel Azu, told his colleagues that electricity supply would be extended to the district capitals of Ajumako and Twifo Praso by May, 1998. On the construction of the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, on which work has slowed down, the heads were of the view that since the project is capable of generating revenue to repay the cost, all efforts must be made to assist the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly to complete the project. Mr Yankah introduced the new regional co-ordinating director, Mr Ahmed Salih who called for co-operation to ensure the smooth running of the region.
