Refurbishment of Brazil house begins

Accra, July 27, GNA - A 786 million cedis refurbishment project on the old Brazil house at Ga-Mashie in the Greater Accra has began after the signing of an agreement between the Brazilian Embassy and the Implementing Committee of the old Accra project.

The refurbishment, which includes the construction of a two-storey building, replacement of old roofing and the renovation of cluster of houses, would transform Ga-Mashie into a Brazilian museum. Nii Teiko Tagoe, Director of the project told the Ghana News Agency that when completed, management of the museum would be under the Tabon community in Accra.

He said the Tabons were the descendants of freed Brazilian slaves who lived at Otu-Blohum during the 19th century. Nii Tagoe said the contract which had already been awarded to Gohed construction with Nal-arc Consultants as the main consultant was expected to be completed by November 2007. 27 July 07
