Refugees assault Ivorian military officer

Elubo (W/R), Aug 24, GNA — An Ivorian military officer who accused some Ivorian refugees at the Eagle Star Refugee Camp at Elubo of stealing his wife’s belongings was nearly lynched.

The soldier was however saved by Ghanaian military patrol team, the Jomoro District NADMO Coordinator, Mr. Kwasi Nipa Kwame, confirmed the incident to GNA at Half Assini on Tuesday.

He said the Ivorian military officer, who was in uniform, escorted his wife to the refugee camp to look for the stolen items.

But the refugees pounced on him and beat him adding that but for the timely intervention of a Ghanaian military patrol team the refugees would have killed him.

Mr Kwame said the patrol team arrested some of the refugees and they would be put before court for assault.

When the GNA contacted Elubo Divisional Police Commander, Inspector Robert Owusu, he also confirmed the incident and said those arrested were in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigation.
