Reconsider stand - Students told

Accra, Oct. 20, GNA - The National Union of Ghana Students ( NUGS), has been urged to reconsider its stand on the reduction of the university user fees by government and to call on its members to return to campus for academic work to continue.

The call was made by the Executive President of the Olof Palme Peace Foundation (OPPF), Osoronko Nana-Yabani, in Accra on Tuesday. He described the NUGS stand as "painful and unfortunate" and said " we hope, on sober reflection, NUGS would see the points of the government and return to campus."

Osoronko Nana-Yabani pointed out that as a peace foundation, OPPF's concern is the promotion of stability to ensure that all citizens serve the good of the public.

The Foundation called on University students to respond favourably to the government's decision to slash the fees by 30 per cent. The government gesture is magnanimous and goes to show that it has the welfare of students at heart since the cost of university education is high, Osoronko Nana-Yabani said.
