Former President Jerry John Rawlings received a tumultuous welcome at Hohoe on Saturday when he visited to mourn with Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu who was bidding his late sister farewell.

Security officials present at the event had a hectic restraining the excited crowd who wanted to catch a glimpse of the former president who was in the company of his daughter Amina Rawlings , business mogul Kennedy Agyapong popularly known as Kenpong and boxing legend Azumah Nelson.

At the sight of the NDC founder, the sorrowful and gloomy mourners interestingly became excited.

The applause and cheers became louder as Rawlings stepped out of the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, where a final service was held for the late sister of Ghana's Energy Minister.

Rawlings responded in equal measure and acknowledged the cheers and waved at the crowd as a sign of appreciation for their welcome treatment.

The late Esther Dey popularly known as Nee Amewu-Duglu, died on August 12, 2019, at the Tema General Hospital.

Some of the dignitaries at the funeral were Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, NPP Chairman Freddy Blay, and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu, Minister of Railways Minister of Railway Development, Mr Joe Ghartey, General Secretary of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Gabby Otchere Darko, Edward “Bumpty” Akufo-Addo, brother of President Akufo-Addo, among others.

The deceased left behind her, husband, Venance Dey, and two daughters, Maira Dey and Christable Dey.
