Rawlings condemns government - for neglecting Justice Annan

Former President Rawlings has criticized the Kufuor administration for neglecting former speaker of parliament, Justice D. F. Annan and only pretending to care after he died. He was speaking to a family delegation, which visited his house to inform him about the final funeral rights of Justice Annan, who was once chairman of the National Commission for Democracy.

Flt. Lt. Rawlings said the government refused to arrange medical care for Justice Annan and by the time they decided to attend to him “it was too late”.

Speaking in Ga, Rawlings said: “whiles some of us were praying for him to live, others were praying for him to die. Now they want to give him a state burial.” Rawlings paid glowing tribute to Justice Annan, describing him as one of the main architects of Ghana’s democracy.

The former parliamentary speaker will be buried in Accra on October 5.
