Rawlings accuses media of using sloppy polls

Ho, Nov. 28, GNA - Former President Jerry John Rawlings, on Friday alleged that certain elements of the Ghanaian media had been engaged by the government to manipulate results of the impending elections with sloppy pre-elections opinions polls.

He said these unscientific polls cited the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as trailing, in order to dampen the enthusiasm of its supporters, ahead of the voting day.

Former President Rawlings was addressing NDC rally in Ho as part of his tour of the Volta Region.

He said attempts to "blackout" activities of the NDC and its candidates in the media would not prevent people from realizing the reality on the ground which pointed out to the need for a change of government.

"Everywhere people are shouting for a change. An NDC victory wind is blowing," said former President Rawlings.

He accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration of dissipating funds, amassing wealth, while the ordinary man suffered from want of basic needs.

Former President Rawlings called for vigilance among supporters of the NDC on polling day so that the "verdict is not stolen". Mr. Modestus Ahiable, NDC Volta Regional Chairman, said preparatory works for many of the projects the NPP was taking credit for were initiated by the NDC government.

Captain George Nfodjoh, (rtd), Ho-Central NDC parliamentary candidate, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), said the huge crowd, which was no fluke, gave assurance that the area was the solid support base of the NDC.
