Rawlings Urged To Retire From Partisan Politics

The former Press Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged ex-President Jerry Rawlings to retire from partisan politics. In the opinion of Mr Assiseh, the former President has outgrown party politics and must concentrate on something more fufulling. “You should let your mind lie fallow, so to speak and enjoy the peace of silence. You should not allow the flies of politics to be hovering around you, for you deserve better,” he stressed.

Mr. Assisseh who retired from active politics about two months ago said should Flight Lt Rawlings heed to his advise, “his physical, mental and spiritual energies would be rejuvenated in readiness for higher global opportunities that lie ahead of him in the future.”

He noted that “ former President Rawlings had an infectious leadership style, direction, clear message, clear processes and above all a laser-like leadership style” and sustained democracy after master-minding two successful coups. “Rawlings must now consider himself as someone above partisan politics but as a statesman with a respected voice on the international scene.

He must consider himself as a distinguished personality who has achieved the greatest political sign post for the nation. These qualities, no one can take away from him and he must, therefore give himself a rest,” Mr. Assisseh added.
