Rawlings' Office Deny Report About Accident Car

The Office of former President Jerry Rawlings has denied a Statesman newspaper report that one of Mr. Rawlings’ vehicles which was involved in an accident near Bimbilla in the Northern Region, has been abandoned in the town. The Statesman had reported that no attempt was made to report the accident, nor tow the vehicle, until the Pusiga police went for it. The vehicle- a Toyota Land Cruiser, which was conveying security and support staff from Tamale to Bimbilla, somersaulted off the road when the front suspension broke near Pusiga.

None of the occupants were hurt. The General Secretary of the NDC, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya told JOY FM that he personally instructed the car to be taken to the Pusiga police. He said claims that the accident vehicle was not registered in the name of any individual are false.

According Alhaji Huudu Yahaya the registration number of the vehicle is AS 1189 G, and not GR 5876 C, as published by the Statesman, a pro-government newspaper. He alleged that Information Minister Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has prevented vehicles from being sent to Tamale for repairs.
