"Rawlings Never Slapped Me" – Atta Mills

Former Vice President John Evans Atta Mills says ex-President Rawlings never slapped him as the rumour mill has made people to believe for sometime now. Again the allegation that he, Prof Mills had fore knowledge of the demolition of a four-star hotel cited in the Airport area in year 2000, but did nothing about it is false and malicious.

The former vice President was reacting to charges being leveled against him by sections of the party in his bid for the party’s flagbearship position. For sometime now Mills’ detractors have alleged that he was so mild and submissive that he took savage drills and occasional slaps from his boss, Jerry Rawlings between 1997 and 2000 when they served at the seat of government, the Castle. Osu.

“There was rumour that the President slapped me,” Prof Mills acknowledged hearing sometime ago but said, “that is not true”. About the pulling down of the multi million dollar hotel, the former veep said “I was not aware that the hotel was being pulled down; I knew about the controversy because the man came to see me … but I wanted to make sure I get the facts first so that whoever we had to deal with will be dealt with…” He said if he had known that it was wrong, he would have resisted that demolition."
