Rawlings, Nana Konadu Salute workers

Ghana's former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, President of the 31st December Women¹s Movement, have congratulated Ghanaians workers on the occasion of Workers¹ Day, which falls today.

The couple said: ³Millions of workers across the country sacrifice daily to turn the wheels of progress for our dear country and on such an occasion we commend them for the role they play in national development and encourage them to commit themselves to a more dedicated service.

President and Mrs. Rawlings said: ³While the past year has been one of mixed fortunes for workers because of the phased implementation of the Single Spine Salary and the anomalies that have come with it leading to agitation from various workers¹ groups, we call on them to stay committed to the socio-economic development of Ghana and endeavour to employ various channels within the Labour Law to press home their demands.

³Times are tough and many, particularly our youth are disappointed that the current political direction has not yielded the kind of results expected when the wind of change took seed in January 2009.

³There is however hope for the future and all Ghanaians have to join hands in pursuing a new direction that promises more participatory governance, dedicated leadership and trusted governance,² the statement concluded.
