Rawlings, Nana Konadu Call For Truth In Christmas Message

Former President Jerry John Rawlings and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings have in a Christmas and New Year message called on Ghanaians to endeavour to apply truth as a guide in all their actions.

President and Mrs. Rawlings said Ghana is endowed with excellent human and natural resources but the failure to apply truth in all facets of daily life has given birth to a culture of hypocrisy, arrogance and impunity that has adversely affected the socio-economic and socio-political development of the country.

“During the Christmas and New Year festivities it is important that we take time off to candidly ponder the future of our beloved country and measure the role we have played as individuals to boost or stunt its development.

“We have to also pray for our political leaders and heads of institutions, some of whom have wool over their eyes so these can be removed. Many of our leaders are blinded by the luxurious attachments of high office and sometimes tend to overlook the true needs of the citizenry.

“2011 should be a year that will see leadership and the electorate communicate in one voice instead of the state of agitation that has engulfed our nation and sometimes sowed seeds of mistrust and serious discontent.

“If our leaders endeavour to apply the truth at all times and work to protect the interests of Ghana, our new found oil resource and independence will be a blessing, not a curse.

“It is imperative that as citizens we eschew hypocrisy and petty partisan pursuits and protect the truth irrespective of our political, social or ethnic background.

“The bible says in John 4:24 that: ‘God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.’

“As we celebrate the end of the year and welcome a new one let us ensure that we celebrate in moderation and in the true spirit of love and friendship.

“We take this opportunity to wish all Ghanaians a Joyous Christmas and a Prosperous New Year,” President and Mrs Rawlings said.
