Rawlings, Danso-Boafo resolve differences

Former President Jerry Rawlings and Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Prof. Kwaku Danso-Boafo have amicably settled their differences arising out of the latter’s publication of a book on Rawlings.

The Fast Track High Court in Accra heard Friday that the two men have agreed terms, a copy of which has been deposited with the court bounding the pair.

Among other terms, Prof. Danso-Boafo, who has acknowledged areas of concern raised by Rawlings in the book “J.J. Rawlings and the Democratic Transition in Ghana,” will address same in the next edition of the book.

Consequently, the former high commissioner can go ahead to launch his book, a ceremony which was called off last August at the last minute as a result of the lawsuit.

Rawlings in August went to court for a perpetual injunction to restrain the launching of the book for alleged breach of contract between him and Prof Danso-Boafo.

According to him, the author had agreed to await his (Rawlings’) approval of the final draft of the book ahead of publication but failed to abide by the condition, besides the book, which was to be launched in Accra on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, contained material Rawlings considered factual inaccuracies that also distorted the history of the events Prof Danso-Boafo wrote about.

The two men however opted to settle the matter out of court, leading to today’s final consent judgment, which supersedes any previous conditions or obligations.
