Raphael Cubagee Turns A Curve

A former staunch member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Raphael Cubagee, who left the party in 2010 and formed the Real Democratic Patriots Party (RDPP), has made a comeback and declared his support for President John Mahama.

Mr. Cubagee deserted the NDC due to what he described as discrimination against him by some Brong Ahafo Regional executives of the party and attacks on the Rawlingses by party gurus.

However, addressing a press conference in Sunyani, Raphael Cubagee said his decision to re-join the NDC was informed by the respect President John Mahama had shown to his mentor, former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Mr. Cubagee told the media that President John Mahama undertook crucial reforms after assuming office recently.

The RDPP, which was formed two years ago, has failed to make the needed impact in the political space in the country.

It is unclear whether he would change his mind after National Democratic Party (NDP) elected Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings as flagbearer.

Most journalists, who attended the press conference in the Brong Ahafo region, questioned his capacity to organize such a huge press conference.

“When he formed his party, he couldn’t invite all the press for such big conference so where did he get money for this,” one of the journalists quizzed.
