The Channel manager for TV XYZ, a subsidiary of the XYZ Broadcasting Company, Raphael Appiah Gyampoh, has thrown his weight behind the road safety campaign by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.

According to him, the campaign christened “Our lives matter” is timely and must be supported by the government and cooperate Ghana.

The Police MTTD intensified road safety education before the Christmas festivities across the country, describing it as a sure way of preserving lives and property.

The campaign spearheaded bythe Director of Research, Education, and Training of the Police MTTD, Chief Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Oben, aims to bring sanity to the country’s roads and completely reduce road carnage to the barest minimum.

Gyampoh, who described Chief Superintendent Obeng as a valuable asset to the police and road safety campaign,n also indicated that the worth of experience the police chief brings to bear is worthwhile.

“If you consider the education, the simplicity of his campaign, and the clarity in his communication, one can only expect nothing short of a great impact on our roads,” he intimated.

Gyampo further retorted that the statistics on road crushes is worrying and require all hands-on deck approach to nipping it in the bud.

“The MTTD itself has indicated that at least six (6) people die daily and two thousand (2,000) perish annually through road traffic crashes. Considering this data, it’s a serious national emergency that can wipe all of us out within a certain time frame,” he bemoaned.

He has since called for a multisectoral approach in dealing with the menace.

He added that while the government does its part in fixing our roads, the transport owners and drivers must also adhere to road safety measures by putting roadworthy vehicles on the road while ensuring human errors, such as drunk driving, tired driving, amongst others, including pedestrian errors,s are eschewed.

“It is for this reason that the public education by Chief Superintendent Alex Obeng must get all the needed stakeholders’ support in ensuring our roads are safe-the government, drivers, and you and I who use road must all play our part. Because now you can bid farewell to your family on your outing, but you cannot guarantee your safe return,” he said.

Gyampo pledged the Media Station’s unwavering support by continuously allowing such education on its outs.

“Our doors are always open for Chief Obeng to continue the education and participate in public education campaigns and discussions on road safety on platforms like TVXYZ, Power Fm, Radio XYZ, and others,” Gyampo pledged.
