Rancard Solutions Launches New Product

Rancard Solutions Limited, a Ghanaian owned customer software development company also launched their Wireless Application Protocol (WSP) based mobile internet gateway at a press conference in Accra on Friday.

The gateway software developed by Rancard Solutions with code base from the Kannel Foundation and 3Glabs in the US is a key part of the infrastructure, which makes it possible to view internet content over specially enabled mobile phones.

The Deputy Minister of Communication and Technology, Mr. John Achuliwor said it is clear that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has witnessed massive expansion as well as improved quality service. He said there is a clear indication of the positive impact of the programmes and strategies that have been embarked upon by the NPP government to ensure that Ghana's economy moves into the "Golden Age of Business".

He said government seeks to promote IT culture in order to bring about greater use of ICT among Ghanaians. "The Government therefore hopes to nurture a vibrant IT industry which will include content providers and multi-media publishers and software developers."

He reiterated the Government's plan to set up a regulatory body to establish the requisite standards for conduct of business in this sector.

He said a sound effective and efficient telecommunications network will provide a basis for enhancing the development of IT. It is to this end that the government is putting in place many institutional reforms in the telecommunications sector with a view to modernizing the industry, to make it more effective and efficient.

The Director of Communications, Applications and Technology of Rancard Solutions, Mr. Ehi Binitie said the company aims to provide technology solutions that not only satisfy basic communication needs at minimal cost to network operators and consumers, but also provide customized software to solve specific needs of organisations.

He announced that Rancard Solutions had successfully tested their first Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) gateway and mobile internet applications over the Spacefon network and are currently exploring the possibilities of rolling out a commercially available mobile internet WAP based service in collaboration with network carriers and Internet Service Providers (ISP).
