Radio presenter defrauds three of GHC 1,970

Tarkwa, Sept. 8, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit court has remanded, Albert Quansah, a 32-year Radio Presenter at Pure Fm in Tarkwa, into Police custody, to re-appear before the court on September 13, for defrauding three persons, under the pretext of securing them passports and visas.

He pleaded not guilty to all the three cases, when he appeared before the court on Wednesday.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Florence Tawiah, told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng-Diawoo that, in February this year, the suspect, approached Ruth Antanat, a businesswoman based in Tarkwa and collected GHC300 with the promise of securing her a Ghanaian passport within two weeks but failed and all efforts to retrieve the passport and the money has proved futile.

Mr Obeng-Diawoo cautioned Journalists and other media workers to avoid acts that could compromise their reputation and that of their organisations.

and watchdogs of society rather engage in illegal acts and cautioned that such acts should be avoided.

In another development, Quansah, allegedly collected GHC600 from Enoch Antanat, a worker of SGS Laboratory Service at Tarkwa in November 2009, with the aim of assisting him to secure a South African Visa but again failed to deliver on his promise.

Inspector Tawiah told the court that the suspect in July this year, again approached Nana Abena Kumadoa, the second, a queen mother of Wassa Fiase Traditional and collected GHC 1,070 and her Ghanaian passport, under the pretext of securing her German Visa.

He said the suspect also told her that he would assist her daughter to get a birth certificate, to enable her to watch the FIFA under 20 Women's World Cup but was unable to fulfil his promise and was arrested at his hide-out on September 7.
