Radio GaDangme hits the digital waves

Radio GaDangme is now on the digital waves – thanks to efforts by some members of GaDangme Europe (GDEu), made up natives from the Greater Accra Region, Ghana, based in Europe.
The station which can be logged on at: www.gadangme.com features educative programmes, interviews, music, among others, mainly in the native language of GaDangme people – Ga and Dangme.
There has been great interest from listeners and they are relishing every bit of it. A caller from Israel who phoned in to one of the station’s programmes said she was not aware of it till a friend informed her and since then she has been hooked. “I love your station and some of the programmes will help our children in the culture of people from GaDangme land. Thanks for making it possible to have a media like this,” she mentioned whilst on the line. Other listeners who have been calling in says some of the indigenous old songs played on the station is giving them memories of the past good old days in Ghana.
Featuring interviews, the station has interviewed the President of GaDangme Europe (GDEu) - Nii Tetteh Okoso Mensah - and his Vice, Sarah Naa Adoley Coleman and some prominent GaDangme natives from Ghana. Says the GDEu President: “Yes, we own it,” with a cracking voice, then he added: “this will mark a new beginning for GaDangme people as we continue to make waves on the digital front of the world wide web (www).” Nii Tetteh congratulated Nii Yartey and Dan Sowah (both GDEu members, based in England and France respectively) for their hard work which contributed greatly to the establishment of the station. “You are true pioneers,” he commended them, adding: “many of your colleagues will look to you as an example. We must work hard to ensure that this new web radio will build on the tradition of the GaDangme people.” Explaining why Radio GaDangme was established, the GDEu President said it’s to act as a strong voice for GaDangme people, promote GaDangme language and culture, promote national unity, promote the benefits of good education among GaDangme people, advocate for social progress and economic development and set new standards in digital web radio. “The credit belongs to all you who have helped transform this vision into reality. The hard work begins now; there are big challenges ahead,” he noted.
