RE: Kufuor Meddled In Sierra Leone Politics

Our attention has been drawn to a Ghanaweb story of Tuesday June 17, 2008, in which the Sierra Leonean Minister for Labour is reported to have said that President Kufuor helped them strategize to defeat the Sierra Leonean Peoples’ Party (SLPP) in the 2007 elections of that country.

We wish to state that this assertion is untrue and we are surprised at the reported statement of the Minister.

We wish to emphasize that at no point did President Kufuor sit with anybody to strategize for the elections of Sierra Leone or any African country for that matter.

President Kufuor has the greatest respect for former President Tejan Kabbah and his party – the SLPP as he does the incumbent President Koroma and his party.

President Kufuor respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all neighbouring countries including Sierra Leone and will not do anything to undermine their governments.

What President Kufuor and Ghana have always wished is to have good neighbourliness and this we have always enjoyed and wish to keep it as such.
