Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz has explained Mohammed Kudus’ withdrawal from Ghana’s squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.

Speaking to the media, he said the national team has no control over decisions made by club coaches and must respect Tottenham’s decision regarding Kudus’ recovery.

“We national team coaches, we can't control the decisions of the coaches,” Queiroz said.

He explained that Kudus initially appeared to be progressing well, but concerns emerged after the forward played 70 minutes.

“Unfortunately, the news was not progressing in the direction that we expected,” he added.

According to Queiroz, he had a final conversation with Kudus and they agreed that protecting his recovery was the best decision.

“In my final conversation with Kudus, we realized that the best decision was to protect his progress, his recovery process,” he said.

The Black Stars coach is hopeful Kudus will return for the next international window after gaining more training and match minutes.

“With more training and more games in the legs, in the next round, Kudus will be ready to be with us,” Queiroz added.
