According to an adomonline.com report on February 26, 2026, the incident occurred shortly after the queen mother returned home from her eatery with a colleague.

Sources indicate that she had been cautious due to security concerns in the area prior to the attack.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants ambushed her as she attempted to enter her room.

Multiple gunshots were heard, and residents later found her lying in a pool of blood on her front porch.

“She was allegedly ambushed by two assailants who opened fire on her as she tried to enter her room,” the report said.

She was reportedly shot about five times, sustaining gunshot wounds on her hands, back, and head.

Her colleague, who narrowly escaped the attack, raised the alarm.

Contrary to initial speculation that the incident may have been a robbery, valuables including her handbag, an iPhone 17, and other personal belongings were reportedly left untouched at the scene.

Witnesses said they saw two unidentified men fleeing immediately after the shooting.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service visited the scene, conveyed the body to the morgue, and have commenced investigations into the incident.

Authorities say efforts are underway to track down the suspects and establish the motive behind the killing.

Residents of Atebubu have expressed shock and grief over the killing of the traditional leader and are calling on security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
