Quarrel over 20 cedis lands four in court

Four people who fought over twenty Ghana cedis were arraigned before the Suhum Magistrate court presided over by Mrs. Comfort Sarpong accused of disturbing public peace.

The accused persons are Alfred Tei, Ebenezer Dingo, Kwabena Adjei and Tetteh Benjamin.Two of them; Tei and Tetteh pleaded guilty with explanation but their explanations were not accepted by the court and were fined 50 Ghana cedis each while the other two who pleaded not guilty were granted bail in the sum of 1,500 Ghana cedis to reappear before the court on January 5, 2011.

According to the prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Ben Nyonator, all the accused persons live at Ayerkokoso near Suhum and are porters in timber sawmills also known as ‘shargo boys’.He said on November 28, 2010, the accused persons went to carry some timber beams from the bush and were paid 120 Ghana cedis to share.

Chief Inspector Nyonator said Tei who received the money allegedly pocketed twenty Ghana cedis and insisted that he was only given 100 Ghana Cedis.He said the issue developed into a misunderstanding between the accused persons which resulted in a fight and one of them reported the case to the police. Chief Inspector Nyonator said, during the police investigation, the accused persons were arrested and charged with the offence.
