Quack doctor operates on teenage

Nkawkaw, June 4, GNA - A teenage pregnant girl at Gakope village near Kajaji in the Sene District of the Brong-Ahafo Region died three days after a quack doctor operated on her and removed the baby from her womb. Speaking to Ghana News Agency at Kwame Danso, an eye witness said on April 22 the girl, Esther Osabutey, went into labour and when she had difficulty in delivering Ibrahim Moro promised to operate and remove the baby to save the life of the girl.

The eyewitness said "Dr" Moro without chloroform ordered some strong boys to hold the pregnant girl firmly on the ground. He then used a blade to operate her, removed the baby from the womb and used ordinary tread to stitch the cut. The eyewitness said three days after the illegal operation Esther became weak and was taken to the Kete Krachi District Hospital in a boat where she died soon on admission.

"Dr" Moro fled the village to Tamale to seek refuge when he heard about the death of Esther but a source alleged that he had been arrested and sent to the Atebubu police for prosecution.

When the Ghana News Agency contacted the Atebubu police the station Officer, Chief Inspector Samuel Amoako, confirmed the story and said there was police presence when an autopsy was conducted on the corpse of Esther at the Kete Krachi Hospital to determine the cause of her death but said he was not aware of the arrest of Moro in Tamale. Chief Inspector Amoako said the baby is on admission at the Kete Krachi hospital and is doing well.
