Purge the nation’s education of politics

Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, Principal of the Jackson College of Education (JCE), has condemned ‘the politicization of the nation’s education.’

The change of policy with every new political administration, she stated had been unhelpful to efforts at maintaining quality standards and would have to end to bring about some consistency.

“Ghana’s academic programmes were very comprehensive and results-oriented some decades ago, but this has declined considerably because of the politicization of our educational system, she said”

Mrs. Jackson, who was interacting with the media in Kumasi, said the politicians should stop toying with the future of the youth.

She called for the setting up of an independent education commission to come up with a comprehensive blue-print for national education development that every government must accept to implement.

JCE, established five year ago, is affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba, and runs programmes in Diploma in Basic Education through distance learning. So far, it has graduated more than 2, 500 students at its campuses across the country.

Mrs Jackson said they would expand their reach to enable more people have access to their programmes.

They were determined to provide sound academic programmes to the teacher trainees to enhance classroom performance, she said.

She encouraged students to embrace distance learning and said it offered an opportunity for them to receive tertiary education.
