Pupils Forced to drink Urine....

Church resolves fracas between teachers and some parents

Pakyi No 2 (Ash), June 20, GNA - The Reverend Otuo Acheampong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church has resolved the conflict that existed between some teachers and parents at Pakyi Number Two in the Amansie West district over the alleged case of a teacher who forced two pupils to drink urine.

Nana Otuo Akyampong, ex-Gyasehene of the area, had earlier, on behalf of the affected relatives, agreed to the amicable settlement of the issue which was being investigated by the police and demanded four million cedis from the teachers as medical, transport and other expenses incurred by parents since the incidence occurred.

Mrs. Beatrice Prempeh, the Amansie West District Director of Education and Reverend J.H. Ofosuhene, the Ashanti Regional Manager of Presbyterian Education Unit had earlier met the parents of the alleged victims, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the School Management Committee (SMC) and other opinion leaders to mediate on the issue. As a result of the peaceful settlement of the impasse, effective teaching and learning has resumed in the school.

Two class three pupils were allegedly made to drink urine by the class teacher and this sparked ill-feelings among residents of the town, victims' parents and teachers.
