Pumpkins Foundation impacting the less privileged

Pumpkins Foundation, a non-government organisation, focused on promoting the general wellbeing of poor and needy children and adding value to the lives of the less privileged children in the city and rural areas, has concluded its 2-1 annual program namely: ‘Arts for Charity’ and ‘Shop for Charity exhibition.

The 'Arts for Charity' which had participation of close to a thousand pupils from Salvation Army School in Accra trained children between the ages of 7-15 years in various crafts and creative works such as painting, shoemaking, beads among others.

The workshop was recorded as one of the most successful events of the organisation since its establishment in 2011.

The first event (Arts for Charity) which was held on 30th of Sept, 7th and 14th of October was highly supported by young entrepreneurs who took turns to equip the children with various skills.

Among personalities who graced the event was the independent candidate for the forthcoming presidential election, Jacob Yeboah Osei. He took his time
to encourage the kids to be the best they can be in life.

The artwork which was made during this period were later scheduled for exhibition and for sales at the event headline: ‘Shop for Charity’ which was held at Swiss Spirit Hotel and Suites, Alisa on the 5th and 6th of November.
On her part, Founder and Executive Director of Pumpkins Foundation, Baisiwa
Dowuona-Hammond was excited at the success of the event.

Expressing her gratitude to donors, she said: “the aim of the workshop and Shop for Charity had been achieved. I’m humbled by the active participation and support of pupils of the Salvation Army School for their colleagues who through no fault of theirs have been infected by HIV/AIDS”.

She called on parents and guardians to encourage their children to support initiatives like the Pumpkins Foundation’s Arts for Charity event to whip up the spirit of volunteerism among all children.

Baisiwa Dowuona-Hammond is hopeful of a more compassionate network of all future generations if children are empowered to be each other’s keeper.
