Publication promoting prominent people outdoored

Accra, May 19, GNA - Ayebia Clarke Company Limited, publishers of African and Caribbean Literature geared towards promoting prominent and Nobel Prize winners, was on Thursday night inaugurated in Accra. The UK-based company are also the publishers of "Between Faith and History", a biography of the President John Agyekum Kufuor. Mr Dolapo Ogundimu, Managing Director, Guaranty Trust Bank, said the firm was looking forward to new directions of celebrating and promoting African cultural heritage to a wider, broader international readership.

"The company hopes to bring more African writing to the attention of the world by publishing and distributing Ghanaian and other African books about Ghana and African culture, thereby enhancing Africa's contribution to knowledge that would have otherwise been ignored or disregarded by western publishers," he said.

He said he was optimistic that the company's impact would be felt in the quality of its contribution and the extended audience. Mr Ogundimu gave the assurance that his bank, which was yet to begin operation in Ghana, would continue to support social programmes to help develop the education sector in the countries in which it operated. Nana Otuo Acheampong, Director of Finance, National Petroleum Authority, praised the company for heeding the call for those in the Diaspora to return home to contribute to national development. "The arrival of Ayebia Publishing in response to the president's call for Ghanaians in the Diaspora to share their knowledge and experience with their kin and kith is timely".

He observed that Ghana and Africa were hubs of good writers but there were very few publishers to match.
